Influence in the wider game

Members of Pontefract Rugby Club are assisting in the management of the wider game beyond our natural perimeter.

Our jack-of-all-trades committee member Jim Cain has been a member of the Referees’ Society for South Yorkshire for the past season, and has also recently been elected to the Competitions Committee of the Yorkshire RFU responsible for the organisation and administration of all county-level structured competitions, including the Yorkshire Merit Leagues and Merit Tables. One pressing matter being debated at the minute is whether to allow rugby clubs’ lower teams (such as Second XV teams) to enter the national league structure.

Also, our current President Mike Parkinson is a member of the Yorkshire RFU Disciplinary Panel, responsible for hearing and determining cases under the RFU’s jurisdiction, including red cards, citing’s and misconduct cases in the men’s and women’s senior game. ‘It’s basically about upholding the integrity and fairness of rugby union being played in the county’, he explains. Apparently, he got so much experience when DoR at Pontefract it became a natural fit!
