Its been a fantastic year for Pontefract RUFC. Our second successive promotion meant that the club is now playing at the highest level in our history, and whilst there has been some difficulties the 1st XV sit in eighth place in the league having won five games. There will be further challenges ahead, not least when we travel to Driffield on Jan 6th, but this team is up to meeting them and have a habit of exceeding our expectations.
2nd XV rugby is going well, and we look forward to seeing our Vets take to the field in the New Year. Age grade rugby for boys and girls is continuing to grow with more players registered now than ever before.
Off the field our clubhouse refurbishments have created a super environment for all our members and guests to socialise in a modern clean setting. We have further works planned to replace the front glazed façade of the club and to refurbish the men's toilets in the New Year.
So we look forward to 2024 with some confidence. The club will be open for our party night on December 23rd (tickets only and sold out), on Christmas Eve (from 4pm) and on Boxing Day for the annual Farmer Copleys XV v Pontefract game. Kick off 12:30.
Special mention is due to our wonderful volunteers and team members who make it all possible. We acknowledge those that work behind the scenes to make the club what it is, including our sponsors, Committee Members, those involved in fund raising, Wayne Sutcliffe, Donna Briddon and all our bar team, our cleaners, Clubhouse Manager Tony Dedicoat, Amanda at AM-PM Catering, Roy Stenton, all of the Friday Gang, Alan Copley, Pete Furness, Steve Hill and Mick Caulfield for their work on the pitches, Buckophotography, and of course all of our coaches (junior and senior.) There are many others who make the club tick and we are thankful to them all.
We also acknowledge the support of the Yorkshire RFU and the Referee Society without whom we simply would not have a game.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone. Why not come and join us to share in our success?
