With the season coming to an end, Ponte took an inexperienced side to the coast against a team who have only just missed out on promotion.
After twenty minutes it looked as if Ponte would prevail as the forwards dominated and the backs looked dangerous. It was no surprise when Ponte took the lead as Josh Milthorpe latched on to a lovely long pass from young Alfie Abbott to continue his remarkable try scoring exploits for the season.
Scarborough did start to look good in attack with their man of the match Kiwi centre pulling the strings and causing endless problems for the Ponte defence. A good move from the home side saw excellent full back Lucas Ketteridge receive a yellow card for a try saving high tackle.
Unfortunately, being a man down hurt Ponte hard as the hosts scored a converted try to take the lead. As the half time whistle approached the game took a decisive turn as Scarborough scored two tries in two minutes, whilst adding another straight after the break.
Whilst Ponte never gave up, they leaked a couple more tries for their only heavy defeat of the season. Best for Ponte on the day was Will Cooke and Sam Gilbert in the backs whilst up front Tad Nyanjowa and Sean Simpson stood out. It was great experience for youngsters such as Toby Ludvig, who was on debut, Jamie Jex, Tom Greensmith and Abbott. The future looks bright for the club with lads like these coming through.
