Four Star Rhea heads up impressive display

In good rugby conditions Pontefract U13s stamped their authority from the offset against local rivals Castleford U13s
From the Kick-off a well taken catch and drive from Millie Carlton gave good field position for Captain Lily Thompson to send battering ram Rhea O’Leary in for her first score of the morning, more good forward play led to O’Leary getting her second try shortly after. Both defences were on top for a period of time but good offloading from Abbie Fox and Trinity Scott unlocked Castleford’s defence which led to Lacey Panayiotou crashing over. Cas rallied back and played some good rugby which led to Tori King scoring, this however woke Ponte up and again good play from Mary Grace led to an easy score from Charli Carlton. Unfortunately, an injury to influential winger Lilia-May Holtom was the only concern from a great first half from Ponte
At half-time the Ponte Coaches made it clear the next score would be vital, Lily Thompson took this on board and broke through to score a long range try minutes into the second half, Ponte defence were giving nothing away and stealing the ball at every opportunity, Elusive running by Maddie Isherwood led to O’Leary getting her hattrick by bursting over from shortrange. Cas rallied again but good work around the ruck by Charli who sent Beth Mclauchlan – Carr on a lung bursting run only to be tackled short of the line, however quick ball from the ruck led to good handling from the Ponte backs sending Ellie Cain to score in the corner. Cas who were tiring in defence couldn’t stop O’Leary who manged to carry several defenders over the line to score her forth of the afternoon. With time running out Amber Evans used her pace to weave past several defenders to score a sublime try. With seconds to go Cas stopped Ponte just short but again Charli Carlton found a gap to score Pontes final try of the afternoon.
Both sets of players deserve credit for playing the game in good spirits and entertaining the crowd with some Excellent rugby
