Pontefract are building a reputation for themselves these days and a large crowd turned up to see for themselves what all the fuss is about. The team did not disappoint with a comfortable victory against traditionally tough opponents, who for various reasons are a young side in transition.

The game was defined in the first few seconds, as big Brodie Matthews caught the ball and ran straight over the top of two would be tacklers. From the position gained Brods could not get out of their twenty-two and the much-vaunted Ponte scrum subjected their younger, lighter, but well coached pack to a going over. The first score came from a free ball with season debutant Lindon Metcalf showing great skill to put his player coach Craig Fawcett in at the corner for an unconverted try.

With full back Richard Hossack looking dangerous out wide and debutant scrum half Harry Wollaston sniping from the base of the scrum, the next score soon came, this time a converted pushover try for number eight Sam Millard.

The points were flowing as a great offload from Millard putting man of the match Harry Mcallister under the posts for another seven pointer. Half time and nineteen nil the lead.

The bonus point fourth try was elusive despite some lovely open rugby and a searing break from Fawcett. The scrum remedied that with a penalty try as the constant pressure took its toll on the Brods eight.

Next up the Millard Mcallister combination worked another converted try followed by a close-range effort from flanker Calum Rodgers.
Brods managed to breach Ponte’s magnificent defence with an individual effort from their winger, but Ponte had time to reply with a pick and drive from Millard.

All in all, a very efficient performance from Ponte who move up to third in the league. Confidence is high and the team look organised and motivated with a great team spirit.

Hard to pick individuals but props Joe Foster and Steve Anderson, along with flanker Steve Reynolds, merit a mention for their tremendous work rate.
