Pontefract welcomed Ripon to Moor Lane at the weekend.
The score-line changed hands numerous times during the first half, but it ended up 20-15 after 40 minutes had been played. Pontefract scored three tries. Two of these were scored by Matthew Bacon, Pontefract’s experienced back, who twice finished good attacking moves in the corner. Louis Brown, Pontefract’s talented young fullback, also added five points to the Pontefract scoreline. Glenn Boyd converted one try and added three points with a penalty. Ripon scored their points through two tries, a conversion and a penalty.
The second half saw less points from both sides. Pontefract extended their lead to eight points after Glenn Boyd kicked a penalty goal. Ripon then came back at Pontefract. After nullifying Pontefract’s penalty kick with one of their own, they then went on to score a try and convert it. The final score was 23-25 in Ripon’s favour.
Pontefract will look to bounce back, and will look to play how they are capable of playing against Whitby next weekend.
