Pontefract nil Castleford in local derby

Castleford v Pontefract
Yorkshire Division 2
After defeating top four rivals Wath last week 29 -20 Pontefract fielded an unchanged team for the first time this season. A fine day and a pitch that held up to the weather meant that Pontefract could keep to their high tempo game plan. From the kick off Pontefract put pressure on the Castleford defence which resulted in a penalty . The Pontefract pack decided to take the scrum and a quick ball saw the Pontefract backs set up a cross field move. Full back Sanderson ran a line against the play to find the defence wide open to score near the posts, he then converted his own try to make the score 0-7..
From the kick off the Pontefract back row drove back into the Castleford half . From a stolen line out they set up a driving maul and Matty Williams was held up over the line but as the ball squirted free Josh Walker , Jon Scholey and John Fradgley all dived on the ball to make sure of the touch down. The try was not converted , score 0-12.
Shortly afterwards Castleford were driven off their own scrum ball, Walker got the ball away quickly to set up a cross field passing move. Luke Beecher starting his second match was held just short of the line but the referee deemed the tackle illegal and awarded a penalty try which was converted making the score 0-19.
Castleford then began to get into the game and put pressure on the Pontefract line. Both wingers Mark Poppleton and Jake Humphries proved dangerous and Thomas Egan was busy around the scrums. Prop Lewis Frazer was always eager for work and only stout defence and covering , especially by Chris Sant kept the home team from crossing the whitewash. The result being the half time score remained unchanged .
Castleford kicked off the second half and found themselves on the end of a powerful charge by No 8 Jonny Burrow which took him into the opposition 22, he slipped the ball in the tackle to skipper Craig Fawcett who out ran the cover to score out wide on the right wing to give the visitors a league bonus point . Sanderson added the difficult conversion to make the score 0-26 .On the 55 minute mark Pontefract swapped props and substitute Phil Lane immediately got himself on the back of a driving maul set up from a line out on the home 22 to add the fifth try which was converted.
Pontefract began to dominate at scrums and line out but the Home team were dogged in defence and good tactical kicking relieved the pressure and found Pontefract exposed at the back . Richard Dedicoat covering back off his wing did some sterling defensive work to keep the home team out.
It was not until ten minutes from the end that Pontefract again broke the tiring Castleford defence, a break by wing forward Beddis drove into the Castleford half , he found Dedicoat coming off his wing in support to carry the move on . He cleverly drew the cover before slipping the ball to Rob Stringer to gallop over unopposed near the posts. The extras were added making the score 0-40.
Minutes later Jonny Burrow produced another 40 metre trademark drive which saw him get on the score sheet for an unconverted tr
