Ponte back on form

Pontefract travelled to Old Grovians for their latest encounter in Yorkshire 2. After losing to Old Grovians last year the team were looking forwards to making amends to their encounter.
Pontefract kicked off the first half with returning 10 Glen Boyd starting proceedings. The 10 minutes the game ebbed and flowed with both teams testing out each others defence, with strong running from both packs. A penalty given in front of the sticks saw Grovians take first blood, which seemed to inspire the Pontefract team to get into gear.
Pontefract managed to get the first try of the game 25 minutes into the fist half, some strong running from Pontefract Centre Ross Shand opened a gap and an off load to Centre Craig Fawcett, looked certain to score, however he was brought down just before the line. A quick pass from no.9 Callum Watts to unstoppable Second row Will Godridge, put Ponte on the scoreboard, this was Wills first try for the first team. Young Watts converted the score to make it 3-7.
The second try for Pontefract again came from some strong running from the Ponte forward with back row Chris Sant breaking the line and another quick ball to centre Shand who broke the line for Fawcett to outpace both winger and full back to score. This time Watts struck the post with his tricky kick.
Ponte continued to pile on the pressure with Sandwith and Fradgley controlling the line with front row of Lane, Hill and Scholey working the scrum in Pontes favour. However the pressure could not be converted into more points.
The second half continued in the same manner with Ponte piling on pressure from strong running from the forwards, especially from sub Ethan Potts making his first team debut. However, for 20 mins the in the second half, Pontefract lost structure and conceded silly points through lack on concentration.
Soon enough the structure returned and soon enough a nothing pass to Glenn Boyd resulted in the no 10 throwing a Dummy and then powering his way over the line from 15 m out, Boyd started were he left of before his injury.
Pontefract were put under more pressure from Grovians, but strong tackling from Nyanjowa and Sandwith kept them at bay. The forward kept to their structure and pressured near the Grovians try line, with a strong carry from Hill drawing in 2 defenders for Tad Nyanjowa to pick and go and score his second try in as many starts, another great performance from the young back row who had been stealing ball all day.
Pontefract then defend for the last 5 minutes of the game and Old Grovians were unable to get any more points, and Ponte saw the game out with a final score of 15-24. Great to see some structure back in the team and hopefully can take the positives into next weeks home game V Roundhegians
