Pontefract were going to Bridlington coming off a good performance the week before , conditions a bright sunny fresh day with a very strong cross field seaside breeze , quite a strong start from the away side taking a lot of the territory due to the cross wind being in our favour , bridlington got the first points on the board due to a chink in the armour of Pontefract's defence resulting in a try under the posts then converted ,bridlington then put Pontefract under pressure on their own line but after good turn over ball form Ponty a quick thinking cross field kick from captain Boyd to Jordan Gill resulting in his power and pace taking him 50 yards down field to score a try , unconverted , Pontey then put on a lot of pressure on brids line due to our forward pack and a scrum in conclusion receiving two penaltys but Unfortunately not receiving a penalty try , leading to the end of the first half Matty Hargreaves was sin binned leaving Pontefract vulnerable bridlington taking full advantage and scoring a un converted try .
Second half started and it was quiet difficult for us to get back in to the game (being down a man ) Andy Fradgley came on at no 8 moving Matty Williams to no 6 due to injuries from Joe Perkins and griffin coming off due to his lower back taking its toll during a strong performance in the scrum during the first half allowing experienced rich maw to come on ,pressure was now building on Pontefract defence due to the brids forwards powerful running , this resulted in a miss communication yellow card to rich maw , with that brids powerful loose head prop powered over the line bringing the score to 17:5 to the home side , ten mins to go Pontefract regrouped well coming back to full strength speeding up the quickness of the ball from the ruck area great handling from the Pontefract back line meant the ever elusive Ivan Drago lookalike (Andy Fradgley) scores just to left of the posts and converted by experience dean , coming in to the dying mins of the game Pontefract again up the anti on brid resulting in a scrum in Pontys favour quick ball from the set piece allowed strong Fawcett in to space with young Gill in support and with a great off load the try was on !referee had other ideas and pulled back for a forward pass , final score 17 :12 a strong performance for Pontefract pack especially the front three and competent display from the two second rows .
