Great conditions lead to great win for second team

Pontefract RUFC 2nds v Ripon RUFC 2nds, game played Saturday 04.04.15 at Moor Lane, KO 3.0pm.
Pontefracts blend of ever improving 2nd team and the ever reliable s showed their potential in a club friendly
against a determined and capable Ripon side. The spring weather presented excellent rugby playing conditions on Easter Saturday,
testing the fitness and stamina of both sets of players in the warmer temperatures. From the kick off Ripon did not hold on to possession and Ponte made the most of early ball, the forwards driving on, Dan Wheater sending the ball out wide and centre Matthew Bacon found the gap for the first try.no goal, a cross wind having an effect on goal kicking all the game. The Pontefract forwards had a strangely inconsistent afternoon at the set piece even though they had the biggest outfit, however Ripon could not hold onto the ball in the tackle and the home side racked up the points with two first half tries from Jordan Gill, two tries from Matthew Bacon and one try from Andy Fradgley with conversions from Liam Kay. Loose home side play did give the visitors half a chance and they were definitely up for it, scoring out wide when the cover was away. half time score 29-5. A revitalised Ripon playing downhill and benifitting from the home sides swops and changes throughout, moved the ball wide, Pontefract missed the tackles and the visitors ran in two quick trys. Scrum half Dan Wheater replied with a try following a Jonny Hill break. Ponte were caught napping again Ripon stringing the passes together and scoring out wide. However, Pontefract had the last word with a superb break from Matthew Bacon who fed wing Jordan Gill to score the try under the post. Final score 41-20. A good game all round. Pontefract did the damage in the first half and allowed committed Ripon back into the game in the second half. Ripon scoring three second half trys. Jonny Hill was man of the match for Pontefract, one of his best games this season, particularly in open play. Scott Hawkins and Liam Kay stand outs. Pontefract are away to Sheffield Medics in the league Saturday 11.04.15, holding Pontefract to a draw in their last encounter
