Match report Pontefract RUFC 2nds v Yarnbury RUFC 2nds, game played Saturday 17.12.16. at Moor Lane, kick off 2.15pm. Pontefract 2nds played their last game in 2016, welcoming Yarnbury 2nds for a pre Christmas friendly. Both sides played competitive rugby, Yarnbury scoring first from an home side error. A quick tap and go by Ponte scrum half Dan Wheater got go forward and Scott Hawkins crashed over for the try to equal the score. A loose ball gave the visitors a scrum feed, a kick through produced a bouncing ball and a wobbly opportunity for Yarnbury to score a try. Half time score 5-10.
Yarnbury benefitted throughout from loose ball and kick backs which made the home side work their socks off in defence. Ultimately Ponte were stretched and the visitors scored in the corner to increase their lead. Pontefract increased the effort and got into the visitors half, lock Will Story putting in a bullocking run pushing off defenders to score the try. 10-15. Pontefract were still in it but a penalty and late turn around kick into space try sealed the win for Yarnbury. Ponte were commendable for battling to the end. Yarnbury making the most of their extra ball time opportunities. Final score 10-23.
Standouts were Will Story for his determined try, Andy Colmans 80 minute effort along withJosh and Luke Beecher.
A Pontefract select will be playing the Farmers Select on Boxing Day 26.12.2016. at PRUFC Moor Lane, all welcome for what will be an entertaining and enjoyable rugby game.
