Match report Castleford RUFC 2nds v Pontefract RUFC 2nds, game played Saturday 27.01.18. at Whitwood, kick off 2.15. pm. Pontefract 2nds travelled to Castleford for a friendly game, taking the opportunity to welcome back Josh Hough from injury along with Andy Smith. Leo Harrison, Liam Wiggins and to enable a few positional changes in an ongoing developing side. It was stalemate in the early encounters, although Pontefract overcooked their effort and the home side put in some terrific tackles to unsettle the visitors. Ponte getting on the front foot from a back inside pass to wing Dave Findlay who forced his way over for the first try. No goal. The visitors moved the ball out wide at every opportunity with scores from .Rob Jepson, a second try from Dave Findlay. Centre Ross Shand hitting the gap to score and scrum half Adam Edwards making a half break from the set play and producing a miss pass to then race over for the try. Dave Findlay kicking the extras, half time score 0-29. Castleford battled hard but Pontefract re aligned and upped the effectiveness of their support play. The score line suggests a one sided game, however Castleford kept at it but the heavy tackle count took its toll and Pontefract found a way through the defence along with the plentiful support. Stand outs were Adam Edwards stepping up at scrum half, Jonny Fradgleys work rate was exemplary, Scott Hawkins again leading from the front, Dave Webb’s ball rip, upper most an excellent team effort.
