Pontefract 2xv 38-12 Yarnbury2xv

Pontefract 2xv 38-12 Yarnbury2xv

Pontefract extended their unbeaten start to the season with another display of power, pace and flair to beat a competitive yarnbury who currently topped the table. With the usual many changes it took the home side a while to settle into their game but still managed to test the visitors resolve with some ambitious rugby. The yarnbury defence was strong, organised and determined repelling the experienced back line that welcomed back josh Walker, rasher and Andy Coleman for the first quarter until rasher crashed over after some purposeful work from the home pack. 5-0 touchline conversion narrowly missed. This score spurred the visitors onto the offensive but gritty defence from Dedicoat, Winn and maw kept them at bay. Once the storm was weathered the pack muscled their way up field led by Hill, Field and Senior to allow rob smith to scoot over after a delightful pass from the enigmatic Tom Carr who converted from out wide 12-0.
The hosts continued to press and were rewarded with a deserved try for Andy Coleman after great work from Carr and the petulant Simpson to extend the lead to 19-0. The scrum was dominant, the pack rampaging and the backs power tested the visitors resolve to the full with unrelenting pressure that produced a fine try for Wiggy after yet another line break from Andy Coleman to register a bonus point score. 26-0
The game was over as a contest and a spectacle as the hosts had subdued a dangerous opponent. However, all the great rugby played in the first half counted as nothing as the hosts descended into a shambolic, Ill disciplined rabble that was hard to recognise after the break.
The second period was full of errors and Penalties turning the game into a very drab affair with pontefract conceding two sloppy scores as they abandoned rugby in favour of a mass debate.
There were two moments of magic as Steamer collected a beautiful cross kick from Carr to stampede over for a well earned try and debutant Ben Walker showed his pace and potential. Billy Coleman barged his way over to give pontefract a 38-12 victory with his brother, Andy earning the MOM with a bullish performance.
Special mention and thanks to the referee who managed to keep the game flowing in that dreadful second half and for having the patience of a saint. Well played sir!
