Match report Wheatley Hills RUFC 2nds v Pontefract RUFC 2nds, game played Saturday 22.11.14. at Wheatley, kick off 2.15pm.

Pontefract 2nds played Wheatley 2nds on consecutive weeks at home and away. Wheatley are always a strong and difficult
side at home and Pontefract had to stick to their game plan in the opening phases of the game. The home side were at their most threatening around the

found a gap in the defense and burst through but was penalised for holding onto the ball after the tackle. Wheatleys penalty goal kick going wide. Ponte produced a further opportunity, center Toby Thorpe taking a great pass from Liam Kaye and cutting through the defense, the support over ran and the final pass was ruled forward. Liam Kaye kicked a penalty goal when Wheatley dived over the ball. 0-11. Good overall team play produced the try before half time, Ponte maintaining possession, Rob Jepson finding the gap in defense and Nick Calvert racing 40 metres to score under the posts, half time score

Pontes line out mis fired on a number of occasions and as a consequence Wheatley had extra possession and the visiting forwards had to graft to get the ball back, Joe Perkins tackling to free up the ball. Both sides started to tire in heavy underfoot conditions, Ponte gave a series of penalties and Wheatley
forwards saw their opportunity, driving over from short range for the try which was goaled. 7-17. Josh Thomas was yellow carded for an infringement at the breakdown. Wheatley strayed off side and Liam Kaye kicked the goal. 7-20. Ponte ,s line out finally clicked, Joe Perkins picked off the top, Kyle Bailey moved the ball on and Liam Kaye kicked cross field, the ball bounced up and Ben Dunn Birch won the grapple for the ball, Full back Dan Wheater
was in support, took the pass and raced away 30 metres to score the try under the post. Liam Kaye kicked the goal. 7-27.
Pontefract kept at it as Wheatley tired, Jonny Hill and Liam Kaye going close. Final score 7-27. A good league win away from home at Wheatley
prop Phil lane was man of the match, in the thick of it tackling all game, Kyle Bailey, Rob Jepson,Nick Calvert stand outs. Pontefract 2nds are at home
to Sheffield Oaks 2nds Saturday 29.11.14.
