Slow start but Ponte kept pressure on to secure win

Pontefract 2nds early errors delayed their normally ferocious start and visitors Dinnington 2nds were able to establish
themselves before Pontefract pressure finally produced two penalties that allowed the home sides goal kicker Liam Kay to get points on the board.
Pontefract 6 Dinnington 0. A Rob Jepson break looked to have breached the visitors defense but scrum half Jonny Mathews couldn,t keep control of the ball as he dived over the try line. Dinningtons first points came about when Pontes lock Stu Haynes was caught off side. 6-3. For the most Pontefracts scrum was held firm with the return of Liam Hawkins and Phil Lane to the front row, James Brownsword back alongside Stu Haynes at lock. Good scrum ball
tied in the opposition pack and Tom Chester had a great run in for Pontes first try and Richard Horrocks kicked the goal. half time score 13-3. Pontefract made their customary good start after the break and again from another solid scrum Dan Wheater put the ball out wide, centre Rob Jepson crashed through the defense and Dan Wheater was in support to take the pass and race over the line to score the try which Liam Kay goaled 20-3. Ponte were guilty of taking their foot off the peddle and Tom Chester had to put his body on the line to slow the visitors attack. Dinnington kicked the resulting penalty and started to claw their way back into the game. 20-6. Pontes back row of Aitor Gonzalez, Scott Hawkins and Joe Morgan put in a series of bullocking runs but didn,t get the support in sufficient numbers. Dinnington turned the ball over and alert defense from Ben Jones saved a certain score. This was Dinningtons best spell and despite a series of good tackles from the pack, Brownsword and young Nick Calvert to the fore the visitors drove over the line for Jordan Blakemore to score a good try which was goaled. 20-13. As the scores narrowed Pontefract were stung into action and played the rugby in the visitors half. Determined effort and renewed vigor saw the home side get the go forward and with numbers on either side of him number 6 Aitor Gonzalez crashed over for the try. Liam Kay kicking the goal. 27-13. Ponte stuck to their guns and turned the ball over securing possession until the final whistle. Final score 27-13. Pontefract completing the double over Dinnington this season. Another good win but hard earned from the visitors. Man of the match for Ponte was Joe Morgan for his over all effort throughout the game along with Scott Hawkins, stand outs Rob Jepson, the returning James Brownsword, Tom Chester, Phil Lane and Ben Jones. Pontefract 2nd need to keep on track. Game to be confirmed for this coming weekend 28.03.15
