First win for an ever improving seconds

Match report Pontefract RUFC 2nds v Huddersfield YMCA RUFC 2nds, game played Saturday 24.09.16. at Moor Lane kick off 3.0pm.
A proud to be Ponte game, the 2nds pulling off an exciting and ultimately outstanding win against a big and capable visiting Huddersfield YM side. Winning by a whisker at half time. Withstanding a YM onslaught post half time, recovering and regrouping to score the vital points and then slamming the door shut to keep the visitors fastened in their own half to win the game. Pontefract coughed an early penalty for off side and the the visitors Michael Bray kicked the goal to go 0-3 up. Ponte attacked the Huddersfield try line Callum Coleman and Ben Jones going close. The visitors were penalised for going off their feet at the breakdown of play, Ponte surprisingly opted to run the ball but again were held up by the visitors defence. With stalwart Adam Knight, David Webb at props and live wire Lewis Hibbert hooking , Ponte for the most held their own at the set play but an early break off at the scrum gave YM another kick at goal, Bray kicking the goal to go 0-6 up.
Persistence paid off and number 7 Leo Harrison supported to burst through the gap to score a much needed home side try, Richard Hossack kicked the goal for Pontefract to take the lead 7-6. At the restart Ponte attacked and a certain try from a chip through the cover by Rich Hossack cruelly bounced off the post out of his hands. Huddersfield hit back and full back Corey Rhodes scored an easy try out wide from a slip and subsequent missed tackles by the home side. Scrum half Kieron Tucker had his best game so far scrum half and kept up the momentum. Rugged play took its toll on both sides. Pontes, Andy Coleman playing at centre, fly half and full back. Winger Stu Dedicoat got into play , sought the ball and pinned his ears back to score a superb try near the posts, Andy Coleman kicked the goal. 14-11. YM fought back but Ponte started to get the edge in a thrilling phase of the game when every member of the squad contributed to the effort. A sustained attack produced an opportunity for Andy Coleman to evade the stretched defence to score a try near the posts which he goaled. 21-11. Captain Scott Hawkins and Rich Hossack came back on the field to shore up the defence, Billy Coleman ran off his feet to repel the oppositions possession. Tad turned the ball over on two occasions in the final phases and the visitors had no where to go, final score 21-11. Man of the match was Andy Coleman who,s overall contribution to the winning play was exemplary, standouts Kieron Tucker and Will Goodridge. Every team member contributing to the win. Both sides played to win, in good spirit and are a credit to their clubs. The opportunities were their for both sides and Ponte 2nds came out on top. A terrific win.
