Match report, Pontefract RUFC 2nds v Wheatley Hills 2nds, game played Saturday 19.11.16. at Wheatley. Kick off 2.15pm. Pontefract 2nds bounced back with a much deserved win over Wheatley Hills 2nds. Pontefract in front 10-28 at half time, a second half home side rally narrowed the score line, final score 27-42. At the outset Wheatley were quickly into their stride and had ten points via a good combination of forward play. Pontefract took some time to settle with a few enforced changes but then replied with Liam Kay moving the ball wide as much as possible and breaking up play. Tries came from Jack Townsend, Scott Telford, Liam Kay and Scott Hawkins. Kay goaled the try's.
In the second half the home side took advantage of the opportunities and got back into the game with three try's. Pontefract regrouped to keep the game. A particular highlight being wing Liam Tennants try gathered from a deep Liam Kay kick. Stalwart Andy Smith played at number 8. Rich Hossack at scrum half. The blend in the pack of Trevorrow, Hibbert, Webb, Telford, Cartwright, Harrison ,Matthews and Smith worked well and they held their own at the set piece. Man of the match was Liam Kay, with Lewis Hibbert and Rich Hossack stand outs, although, overall it was a commendable team effort.
