Match report Sandal RUFC 2nds v Pontefract RUFC 2nds

Match report Sandal RUFC 2nds v Pontefract RUFC 2nds, game played Saturday 21.01.17. at Sandal, kick off 2.30pm.

Pontefract 2nds played with a renewed vigour, taking the game from the outset to the home side. The visitors aggressive play disrupted Sandals early effort and once again the Brodie Mathews, Will Godridge and Andy Smith combination ensured excellent line out ball, adding to the overall playing time. Fly half Andy Coleman fed Josh Blackmore who evaded the tacklers to score under the post, Josh Beecher kicking the extras. Ponte kept up the momentum and Josh Blackmore got over the gain line to one hand pass to the supporting Stu Dedicoat who raced away for the try. No goal. A couple of unforced errors coughed up possessions and the home side scored in the corner. Ponte replied from a Will Story half break and Blackmore crashed through the defenders to score the try, no goal. The visitors looked comfortable but the defence was caught out of position for Sandals second try. Half time score 10-17. Sandal put in a massive repost in the opening phases of the second half and were rewarded with a try as the visitors defensive effort took its toll. 17-17. Ponte took the lead again with a superb Will Story try. No goal. 17-22. Pontefract playing uphill tired and were under pressure in the scrums which slowed the ball. The home side found a way through the visitors defence and enjoyed a purple patch, running in three try's and kicked the goals. Pontefract rallied and had the last word from a Stu Dedicoat break, Josh Blackmore latching on to the pass and scoring the last try of the game. Final score 38-29. A competitive, enjoyable spectacle played for the most in good spirit. Ponte winning the first half, the second half defensive spell and subsequent slow down allowed the home side to get back into the game. Credit to them.
Ponte not giving up and scoring the final try. Josh Blackmore was man of the match with stand outs Will Story and Andy Coleman. Overall a massive team effort. Pontefract 2nds are away this coming weekend, Saturday 28.02.17. to Dinnington 2nds.
