After just losing out on their last three games, Pontefract RUFC seconds travelled to Sheffield to find a win against the Sheffield University Engineers. Early jitters from the Moor Laners led to a penalty in front of the post for the Engineers which was easily converted. Pontefract soon found their footing and their physical pack dominated the University side. Lee Bennet, Andy Coleman and Josh Blackmore putting in some hard tackles and David Webb, Toby Field and Scott Hawkins securing the ball at the breakdown. Quick work at scrum half for Matthew Hargreaves found the waiting arms of Liam Wiggins who danced to the line. Wiggins scored once more and Blackmore crossed himself twice. Coleman and Blackmore each converted a try. The home side was able to run in to tries in the last two minutes as the visitors tired but it was a well deserved win for Pontefract 24:15. Standouts were Wiggins, Blackmore and Hargreaves but man of the match was Toby Field for being the youngest, yet most fearsome player on the pitch.
