Pontefract second team faced a difficult task on Saturday as they played Scunthorpe second team at Moor Lane. Previous encounters had been decidedly one-sided as the Scunthorpe boys had used their size and experience to dominate Pontefract.
However, this game was to be different as Pontefract, who have been going from strength to strength, came out on top.
Scunthorpe scored first with a penalty under the sticks to take an early lead, but it was not long before Ponte crashed over courtesy of Andy Coleman. Further tries came from Linden Metcalfe and two outstanding tries from back Cieran Tucker and Ollie Jamieson. Scunthorpe managed to run in three tries, despite some solid tackling from Ponte scrum half Matthew Hargreaves, but the game finished 24:17 to the home side. Congratulations to the Ponte back who scored all the points but also the Ponte forwards who dealt with a sizeable Scunthorpe pack well. Man of the match was hooker Lewis Hibbert for his work in the scrum and outstanding tackling.
