Match report Pontefract RUFC 2nds v Pocklington RUFC 2nds. Game played Saturday 28.04.18. at Moor Lane, kick off 3.00pm. Pontefract 2nds final game of the season against a strengthened Pocklington 2nds turned out to be a close run event. Pocklington having the edge for most of the first half as Pontefract piled up the unforced errors which resulted in two early tries for the visitors. Number 9 Callum Mooney and number 5 Josh Papa scoring the early tries. Pontefract then finding a way through, Lock Andy Fenton crashing over for the try. Callum Watkins kick just fading away from the upright. Pontefract kept up the attacks but were held out as the visitors came in at the side. Callum Watkins kicked the resulting penalty goal prior to half time which took the score to 8-10, nothing in it. The home side definitely had the edge in the 2nd half but the last pass and or the wrong decision undermined the 4/5 scoring opportunities. Pocklington holding on and kicking the ball off the field prior the final whistle. Final score 8-10. The visitors finishing 2nd in the league and Pontefract finishing 3rd. Overall Pontefract 2nds have had a successful season, particularly with continued player development which for the most has been seen in the results. Excellent wins against Scunthorpe 2nds, Sheffield Tigers 2nds and Sandal 2nds. In addition some of the 2nds have stepped up to the firsts when required. At the players night the 2nd team clubman of the year was presented to Lee Bennett, the coaches player award was presented to Andy Coleman, the players player award was presented to Brodie Matthews and the player of the season was presented to Josh Blackmore. All the team a credit to the club.
