Match report Pontefract RUFC 2nds v Dinnington RUFC 2nds, game played Saturday 24.03.18. at Moor Lane. Kick off 3.0pm. Pontefract 2nds joined the club celebrations, pulling off a 37-17 win against South Yorkshire rivals Dinnington 2nds. The visitors were the first to score as Pontefract made a stuttering start, coughing up possession and as a consequence allowing the opposition to get on the front foot. A chip through bounced up and Dinningtons Stephen Leitch went in for an early try which James Silkstone goaled. 0-7. Ponte replied from an excellent Matt Hargreaves turn over, feeding on to Liam Wiggins who put wing Adam Edwards into the clear to score the try, no goal. 5-7. An unmarked/ misunderstood penalty allowed Dinningtons Ollie Williamson in for their second try. Home side fly half Richard Hossack in support hit back with a try near the posts which he converted to take the scores 12-12 at half time.
Pontefract gelled in the second half and made the most of their retained ball possession. Drawing in the strong opposition forwards and then moving the ball wide. Centre Steve Lowrie putting in a bullocking run to score early in the second half, no goal 17-12. A no arms tackle gave a penalty to the opposition and a strong drive and classy off load allowed supporting hooker Connor Briggs to go in for the try. No goal. 17-17. The game still had to be won and Dinnington continued to threaten. Pontefract upped their effort and competed more effectively at the breakdown, securing more ball which benefitted the home side backs. Wing Adam Edwards scoring three well worked tries and promising number 7 Brodie Mathews going in for a good support try following a Richard Hossack half break. Final score 37-17. A stronger second half for the home side clinched the win. Man of the match was wing Adam Edwards scoring four outstanding tries, stand outs Josh Blackmore and Lee Bennett in the pack.
