Match report Pontefract RUFC 2nds v Wath RUFC 2nds

Match report Pontefract RUFC 2nds v Wath RUFC 2nds, game played Saturday 08.12.18. at Moor Lane, kick off 2.15pm. Pontefract 2nds were bursting with extra enthusiasm for their home game against Wath 2nds following an excellent warm up session along with Captain Billy Coleman leading from the front and supplying bags of encouragement to the players. Pontefract 14-0 at half time and then producing a stronger second half enabling them to win 43-0. Wath competed from the kick off ( as they always do ) with their big pack and gritty style. Both sides put in the telling tackles to prevent either side getting the upper hand from early play. Pontefract frustrated initially and gave the ball away with too many unforced errors. However the gaps started to appear and scrum half Cieron Tucker collected a pass out of the back door from energetic flanker Leo Harrison to score under the post. Rich Hossack kicked the extras. Similar play earned the next score, Cieron Tucker spotting the space, zipping through the initial gap and then outpacing the final cover tackler to score the try. Ross Shand goaled. Half time score 14-0. Wath were still in the game and continued to try and pull the home side into a forward battle. Ponte competed well, Lee Bennett, Andy Fenton, Darren Smith and the bustling Tad all getting the ball over the gain line to put the team on the front foot. Wath tired and Pontefract seizes the initiative. A Danny Wheater typical sniping run and generous off load to rampaging lock Andy Fenton who scored the try. Ross Shand goaled. 21-0. Fly half Rich Hossack scythed through the middle and then sped away from the full back cover to score his first try. Ross Shand goaled. Play for the most stayed with the three quarters. Liam Wiggins powering his way to the try line to score and Rich Hossack showing his turn of pace to score his second try. Wath as always kept their heads up and changed tactics, kicking into space and high kicks hoping for a spill in the dismal daylight. But the likes of Ben Jones, Stu Dedicoat, Bailey Mathews and Rob Smith were solid under the high ball and maintained possession. Pontes final try was well worked. Prop Ethan Potts threw to the back of the line to an unmarked Andy Fenton who then pushed off the tacklers to force his way over the line to score the try. Final score 43-0. Far from an easy game especially in the first half. A tiring Wath couldn’t hold the whole Pontefract team effort. A grafting Leo Harrison was awarded the man of the match, his work rate throughout the game was commendable, both in attack and defence. Outstanding play from Andy Fenton, ( having his best game this season ), Rich Hossack and Cieron Tucker all scoring two tries. Ross Shand marshalled the backs and Tad produced some bullocking runs which tested and stretched the visitors defence.
Pontefract 2nds are again at home this coming Saturday 15.12.18. Playing Scunthorpe 2nds. Kick off 2.15pm.
