Match report Pontefract RUFC 2nds v Huddersfield RUFC 2nds, game played Saturday 13.04.19 at Moor Lane KO 15.00.hours. Pontefract 2nds welcomed Huddersfield 2nds for their last league game of the season. The home side winning their last encounter by a point at the beginning of the season. On todays match Pontefract made an excellent start by taking the game to the opponents from the outset and making ground to strike for points from the visitors 22, however, a slip unleashed the Huddersfield potential and a try saving tackle from Stu Dedicoat and Will Story only just prevented the score. The visitors made the most of their surge and momentarily rocked the home sides confidence. Scoring their first try on the flank. No goal. Pontefract re grouped and were outstandingly effective in all areas of their play. Finally resulting in lock Andy Fenton scoring two excellent supporting tries from a rampant wing Ben Jones who Huddersfield’s defenders couldn’t hold onto. James Edwards kicked the goal to take the half time score to a deserved 12-5. Pontefract effectively winning the first half of the game. The home side were quickly into their stride at the commencement of the second half but the changes in play didn’t gel and at times Pontefract had the scramble to cover the defensive holes and were very much stretched. The frustrations coughed up the opportunities and Huddersfield made the most of it to score three well taken tries. Pontefract went close but their efforts in this segment of a hard fought and competitive game did not bear any fruit. Final score 12-22.
