Goole away on a cold Sunday morning can test the best of sides but Pontefract were ready for their challenge scoring 7 tries in a 20-45 win to Pontefract. After 20 minutes Pontefract had raced to a 19 point lead with tries from Jude Longstaff and Ben Mason crossing the line and Ethan Grant slotted over a couple conversions. Goole then came to life crashing over the try line reminding Pontefract that they weren't going to role over. After 28 minutes George Marks produced some wonderful skill to score an outstanding try, Elliot Stephens restarted the game with drop kick that proved to be too hard to handle, the ball was fumbled and Marks was there to show great foot work by tapping the over the line and winning the race to complete the grounding, a wonderful try. Pontefract then hit a purple patch scoring again, Will Goodall picked up at the back of the scrum to sprint 50 meters to score under the posts giving a easy conversion for Grant.Goole fought back with another 2 tries making the half time score 15 - 31 to Pontefract.
Tom Webley showed his true potential with some barnstorming runs barrelling over defender after defender getting Pontefract on the front foot on numerous occasions. Other strong runs came from Dylan Fairburn and debutant Jack Heaps these strong runs helped pave the way for more tries from by Kier Woodfield and Ben Mason, Ethan Grant added the extras to complete a strong performance. Pontefract played some wonderful rugby but the discipline was very questionable at times and probably could have scored more if they stopped giving penalties away. The star man of the day was George Marks showing great defence, skill and electrifying pace beat his man every time. Another good day for Pontefract u14s as they continue their improvement.
