Barnsley u14s were visitors to Moor Lane this weekend but spirited defence at times could not match the power and skill that Pontefract possessed. Alex Wilson that too much for Barnsley to handle crashing over after only five minutes breaking a number of tackles on the way to the line. As the Pontefract pack gained control very, quickly building up the phases, creating good space for Jude Longstaff whose illusive running brought him two tries throughout the afternoon and with good distribution he also managed to release an attack that constantly pressured Barnsley's defence. Some of the rugby played by Pontefract was simply wonderful, creating a number of tries in the first half for Louis Wan, Alex Wilson picked up two more tries but George Marks proved again what great finisher he is, when he collected a final pass showing great pace to complete a great team try. Ethan Grant completed a couple of conversions in challenging and windy conditions giving Pontefract a 34 point lead at half time.
After half time Pontefract got caught napping, with a number of missed tackles Barnsley crashed over for their first and only try of the game. Captain Ben Mason again showed his power and skill to carve through Barnsley's tiring defence, Grant converted. Alfie Abbot joined in the try scoring after being put into space allowing him to cross the line untouched. Just a few minutes later Will Goodall showed great pace sprinting 30 meters to score and finally star player for the day Alex Wilson crossed the line for the fourth time to finish off a great display. Credit has to be given to a developing Barnsley side that worked tirelessly but they weren't a match for Pontefract. . Other notable performances were Jex, Fairburn ,Owen and Max Downham in a 61-5 victory.
