Pontefract under 14's visited Hornsea for the first game after the Christmas break and extending their winning streak to 5 games. Scoring seven tries they were always in control, winning 5-43. The scoring started with Sonny Watts crossing the line after 13 minutes after some strong defence in the early part of the game Pontefract gained a good attacking position allowing Watts to go on a long arc to score in the corner. It wasn't long before Longstaff showed great balance and skill to score a wonderful 50 meter try. Pontefract's defence was in full control with strong tackling from Wilson, Jex, and Mason leading the way. The tries came fairly regularly, Goodall picked up two tries, one of which started in Pontefract's own half, Wilson, Brown, Fairburn all crossed for tries, Ethan Grant added four conversions to complete the scoring. There were 2 debutants in Watts and Aaron Bailey who both demonstrated some fine skills and strong tackling and fitted in very well to a side that is growing in confidence. The star player of the day was Jude Longstaff who played a very skilled game in the creation of opportunities. Next week Pontefract will have to work on the ruck area and scrummaging if their winning streak is to continue, pleasing to see was the positive display of discipline that helped in support another winning display.
