Missed chances cost Pontefract the win.

Pontefract produced their strongest performance of the season in a closely fought game against Wetherby. After a strong start the Pontefract defence failed to deal with a kick to the corner and Wetherby capitalised to force themselves over for the first try. Pontefract came out with more determination with strong runs from Marshall Brown and Will Goodall but it took some good handling from Longstaff to provide Ben Mason the space to out manoeuvre the defence to score under the posts. This left a straight forward conversion for Ethan Grant to slot over. Unfortunately Zane Tam Mcmillan had to leave the field with an arm injury later to find out it broken, that paved the way for Elliot Stephens to make his debut for Pontefract. He showed great skill with the ball but what was more impressive was his strong defence stopping numerous attacks.A second injury was soon to follow as George Bailey picked up leg injury, his replacement was Jake Tiffany another debutant. Wetherby were resolute with their completive nature and for the second time in the game they broke Pontefract's defence down to cross the line once more. Unfortunately on this occasion Pontefract failed to capitalise on the ball that they won by instantly handing over possession. At 10 -7 down it was Ben Mason who again broke the Wetherby line to give them the half time lead at 10 - 14 after the second conversion by Grant.
Pontefract's scrum was dominant driving Wetherby off the ball on a number of occasions, Haigh, Woodfield and Wan worked tirelessly and Alex Wilson added plenty of power from the second row.
Abbot worked on field position with probing kicks but Pontefract had continued to put themselves under pressure with a number of dropped balls and lost possession that allowed Wetherby to score and covert to give the themselves the lead at 17-14.
Other notable performances came from Fairburn, Cooper,Jex and Smith. Overall it was another improved performance but Pontefract will have to work on the control of the ball at the ruck. Forward of the day was Marshall Brown but man of the match for Pontefract was Ben Mason.
