Ponte hosted table toppers Old Rishworthians at Moor Lane on Sunday. Due to half term Rishworthians travelled light so Ponte were presented the ideal opportunity to gain a well deserved win. Ponte started lively but struggled to gel at times with the last pass going to ground time and again. After 20 mins the hard work paid off when Captain, Alex Beaumont burst through the centres to set up good ball close to the line the forwards recycled and Liam Laraba came up with the ball for the 1st score. The 2nd was an individual effort from scrum half Danny Wheater who hit the ball flying inside his own half, he rounded the winger then cut inside the full back to score under the post. The 2nd half saw some hardwork in the loose by Will Storey + Joe Perkins who were rewarded with a penalty, goaled by Edwards. Rishworthians never gave up and struck back with 10 mins to go to make it 15v12 and a tense finish. Ponte had the last say through MOM Danny Wheater when he went on a mazey run to the line out wide + Edwards rounded off a fine kicking display to kick from the touch line. Final score 22v12.
