Pontefract 2s 31 Yarnbury 2s 0

Pontefract continued their winning streak by smashing a confident Yarnbury side who had narrowly defeated them earlier in the season.Pontefract took revenge on a visiting side that assured us that are "nearly as good as their first team" with a large dominant pack and a very tastey back line, however, the host's smashed this theory out of the park as their large pack was marched backwards and the backs scythed through their defence despite atrocious conditions
Playing down the slope, Chester, Coleman and Wiggins ran with great purpose to set up a great attacking position from which Baily Mathews crashed over to open the scoring 5-0
The rampaging forwards allowed Carr to engineer a wonderful opening which Danny Wheater scorched through to extend the lead to 12-0. Ponte adapted better to the conditions using the forwards to bludgeon their way forward before releasing their powerful, direct running three-quarters to great effect. Stand off Carr initiated a flowing move that he completed by diving in at the corner to score an ambitious score which he majestically converted from the touchline 19-0
Steamer,Beddis and Field drove relentlessly to lay siege to the Yarnbury line who defended heroically for long periods only to concede again as their big lads tired. Luke Banfield took advantage to finished a series of drives to extend the lead to 24-0
The final score of the half came when Carr's deft grabber found Wiggins who scored out wide again goaled sublimely by the Ponte stand off who kicked superbly all afternoon.
The wind increased in intensity as the second period began but Ponte controlled possession and marched uphill into the storm. Young Eggy was unfortunate not to score as he failed to gather another teasing kick from Carr after some strong running fromAndy Coleman who made some real hard yards. Yarnbury rallied briefly but some tenacious defence denied them any kind of consolation as the home line stood firm.
Mid way into the second half it was unnaminously decided to have an early bath as the weather deteriated and the result was beyond doubt.
Pontefract out thought and out fought a very good Yarnbury side for a decisive victory in appalling conditions.
Another solid all round performance with Mathews, Baddis and Coleman impressing but Steamer was the deserved MOM
